What is Lure Coursing?

Lure Coursing is a humane sport created in the 70's mainly for sight hounds. It simulates the chase of a hare during a hunt but any dog can participate and have fun. The "bunny" or lure is usually a simple white trash bag that is pulled along a course with many turns.

Lure Coursing is an organized event in which sight hounds (or any other breed) follow an artificial lure around a course on an open field. Coursing dogs are rated on speed, enthusiasm,  agility, endurance, and their ability to follow the lure.

Many breeds are involved today; the Afghan, Basenji, Borzoi, Greyhound, Irish Wolfhound, Italian Greyhound, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Saluki, Scottish Deerhound, Sloughi, Whippet just to name a few- as it the nature of a sight hound to chase the lure.

However, there are many other breeds which can get involved in the lure coursing: Jack Russell Terrier, Boxer, Poodle, Pointer, Setters.. Any breed (or a mixed breed for that matter) can enjoy a good run.
